Johnny Knocks Ville

I'm no where near Knoxville, so I won't be able to attend (I'm not a fan of streamed/innterTube teaching, alas), but this announcement on R HPC contains this nugget:
But R has a reputation for being sluggish and inappropriate for large datasets. However, much of R's problems with performance and scalability are due to bad practices of individual programmers rather than being inherent limitations of R itself.
